Help Children Learn to Listen in Church – Free Listening Pages

Perfect! You know when you just find something that answers a question you’ve had for a while?  Well this blog post is an answer to my question, how to keep Sweet Peanut attentive during church.

We’ve always gone to a Family Integrated Church (didn’t know that there was a name for it). Where our children attend the main service also. Sunday School for the children and the adults is before the main service and then we all attend service as a family.

I’ve done different things throughout the years to keep her attention and facilitate the learning process but none seemed to be quite right. From writing the names of the books of the Bible, to coloring a picture of what was being taught, to finding the scriptures in the Bible as they were called out in service. Either her attention was on the coloring or writing or she had a hard time keeping up with trying to find the scripture (this was shortly after she started to learn to read).

Just by happenstance this morning I landed upon this post about Listening Pages on Amy’s blog Raising Arrows. This is a wonderful idea and I shared it with my husband who agrees also. So we’ll be testing these out over the next few weeks to see if this works for our family.

Read the full post to find the links for all three types of pages. There are pages for regular service, Christmas, and non-readers.

Keeping Your Heart Room Clean

I found this in The Sunday teachers’ treasury, 1874.

It’s speaking of the heart. I found it so touching I thought I would share.

Sunday Thoughts…

Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

~Psalm 100:3

I Am So Glad God is Still in the Healing Business

I truly am!

Have you ever had an illness or ailment and even the doctors were stumped? I have. You know when you doctor looks at you with a question mark in their eyes you better have somewhere else to turn.

Scripture says: Jesus Christ the same yesterday today and forever (KJV)

So I turned there.

Personally I was dealing with a bit of discomfort that seemed to have no end. I sought the Lord and He healed me in a nutshell.

Sometimes He will point you to a little something off in your diet. Maybe you tried eating something new that was just not for you. Sometimes you needed to add something that was different. But when that still small voice let’s you know the change that needs to happen or when you just wake up one day all discomfort is gone be sure and give Glory where Glory is due. And if anyone ask of you tell them the reason and hope that is within you.

I’ve had many instances of healings in my life. I know by many accounts they are small but to me they were gargantuan. Sometimes they were things the doctors were monitoring and sometimes not but I do know when I’ve been healed and I’m thankful.

But I’m feeling good and like the song says I Thank You Lord!

p.s. – I’ve been singing this song for many week now

Because He Lives – Music

Meant to post this yesterday but I generally don’t blog and such on Sunday. BUT I did want to share this.

When I play Because He Lives on the piano I tend to lose myself in the lyrics. I’m grateful to Hoover4000 for posting the hundreds of Gaither videos I don’t own (I own several Gaither tapes). I have purchased a few videos after viewing a clip of Hoover’s.

When Allison (who has such a beautiful voice) sings “This child, this child, this child can face uncertain days….BECAUSE HE LIVES!” I say Amen!

My Nephew Got Me Hooked – Christian Fiction Review

I like a good book. Sometimes I like too many good books. I know I don’t talk about them often enough on this blog but mostly because I’m one of those who will read the cereal box just to read something. I read a lot of different things and they’re not always newsworthy.

But this time I really like what I’m reading so much so that I crawled under the dining table yesterday evening to escape and read some more. My husband and daughter understood. My daughter came over to pet my head.

My soon to graduate and head into the world of college nephew turned me on to the book. It’s actually his copy I’m borrowing so I’m being careful not to eat over it and such as I usually do.

Because the author is a female author and it’s Christian fiction one would think chick-lit but it held appeal for him so there must be more.  And there was. He discovered the book in his English class where they were studying bits of writing and he enjoyed the bit from this book. He wanted to know more so he went and bought a copy.  He thought my mother would enjoy it so he loaned it to her and then she thought I would like it too. I wasn’t sure what to expect when he loaned it to me but I’m impressed and now have ordered the rest of the series because I love to read. But what held the appeal for my nephew? Probably the focus on the teenage boys in the different families. I found them most interesting too.

Oh! What is it?

Title: By the Light of a Thousand Stars (The Derby Series #3)

Author: Jamie Langston, Turner

Synopsis: The book is written in the first person of four female characters, two Christian women and two non-Christian,  who’s lives intertwine and the changes that happen in their lives and their families’ lives over the space of about a year. There is also a poetry club that sort of gives you the hint that there are many more characters perhaps whose lives are delved into in other books. I can’t say right off that I was ready to give this book a try. The opening pages are of a mother who is grieving for her lost child. Having lost a child I was finding myself getting a bit sad reading thoughts that mirrored once mine once were but I pulled through and I’m glad I did.

Geesh I know I’m not giving you much of the book but you can go to Amazon and read the first few pages. I kind of like that you know because you usually know by the end of the first chapter if you want to read on.  I just don’t like to give away the all of a book you know.

The book is highly detailed. Meaning you will know every move of a character, “She went to put on her coat.  Her left arm in the sleeve and then her right. She zipped the jacket closed and then pulled on the hood. Looking down she felt in her pockets for her gloves”.  Okay that is NOT verbatim but some of it is like that and it can seem over the top but that is the beauty of the book. You really get to know the characters and even the family members.

It is the third in a series of 5 so I have a lot to read.

I enjoy it and hey! you might too.

Pocket Full of Praises

Praise ye the LORD.
Praise ye the LORD from the heavens: praise him in the heights.
Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts.
Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light.
Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens.
Praise the LORD from the earth, ye dragons, and all deeps:
Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.
Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp.
Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs.
Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals.
Let every thing that hath breath praise the LORD. Praise ye the LORD.
Psalms 148,149,150 KJV.

I woke up and this scripture was on my heart. So thought I’d share. A reminder again what we need to do even when things look bleak.

I have a little book I bought second hand years ago that I’ve been reading to our daughter before she goes to sleep since she was a few months old. It’s called Pocket Full of Praises It is based on these scriptures and very cute. We have it memorized. You can get it at Amazon for 1 penny. We still love to read it today.

Give God Thanks

If you’ve look at the news in the past week you have undoubtedly seen the store of the man with the Golden Voice.

It is an interesting story.  A touching story.

But what struck me most was when asked what had changed in his life the man attributed the sudden fame, job offers, help, etc. to something simple he decided to do over the past year.

Give thanks to God.

No matter the situation, the outlook or  what have you he said he found something to praise and thank God for every day.

Only God knows a persons heart but I heartily believe that He honors the praises to Him. Because that is what he has asked of us.

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.

~Psalm 100:4 KJV

Mom Get Organized for the New Year

Did  you know that January is Get Organized Month?

Gotta love it. I do.

Well we all have areas that we would love to get organized and busy mothers might feel like there is no end to the disorganization.  But there is. (Just think of your older female friends who’s children have flown the coop. Notice how neat an organized their homes are? How about how they have all this time for crafts and hobbies. See it does get better .)

Well the secret to much of this being organized stuff is knowing when YOUR time is. The time when mom can refocus, regroup, plan, and organize.  For busy moms that time is usually morning.

Morning is that time when you want to stay in bed. Let your kids wake you begging for breakfast. Tell them to help themselves. Get another few minutes of shuteye time. But if you take control of that time it can be the most rewarding of your day.

To help you get started Kat over at Inspired to Action has put together a totally free and incredible ebook to help you start planning your mornings, using them wisely and getting more done. It includes morning devotional ideas, checklists for your day with meal planning and errands and much more. Just click on the cute button below.
