Friday Link Love – Homemaking for your Daughters
Upset with myself for missing this last month but better late than never.
Have you been looking for resources to help your daughter learn the home arts? Summer is a great time to start driving home those ideals. Helping mom cook, take care of the home or learn a new craft.
My daughter actually came to me and said this summer she would like to learn to make her bed and play the piano. Okay now before you gasp that my six year old cannot make her own bed let me tell you this thing is huge. I don’t know why my husband and I fixated on it but we bought her one of those extra long beds from JC Penney a few years ago. The darling girl’s room in white sold us so here we have this big bed with an equally big mattress. I struggle to make it each week on linen day and she struggles to help me. Truthfully all she has to do each morning is pull the sheet up, situate the pillow and settle the duvet but she sees me sweat and toil each week and is worried. So alas it’s on the agenda.
Piano is another story. Do you know any children that are pretty strong willed? You know you try to teach them or show them something and they snatch it away and say “I already know how to do it!”. Okay this is my sweet Peanut and it can be frustrating. Praise God she does not do this with school (another reason we use DVD homeschool) but with some things (she picks and chooses) she is really adamant about doing it herself. So I’m comprimising on the piano I have purchase the Alfred Beginner series (I learned with Alfred) and then I also purchased this great book that she can work on BY HERSELF and get a real feeling for accomplishment. She is playing along nicely and every once in a while she will ask me what something means and I can toss in a simple piano lesson.

Friday Link Love – Father’s Day and Graduation Crafts
Yes I’m late with this. What else is new. With Father’s Day, gradauations, and vacations happening I’ve been ubber bizzy.
Okay so this week’s link’s are Father’s Day and Graduation crafts you can make in a jiffy and also some delicious treats to eat. I know you can make them in a jiffy because I did. So without further ado…
Door Hanger: Help dad find his keys in the morning. This easy to craft together door hanger organizer can be put together with a small amount of fabric that you may have lying around already. Make in an hour or so. I made three.
Scrapbooked Graduation Card: We attended a very special Homeschool High School graduation ceremony this week. Not being on the same page I made this card while my husband bought a card…what??!!! Anyway all were impressed. It is really very easy and looks quite nice. In the hands of the graduate right now and since it just dried as we were headed out the door. I’m sorry I have no pics.
S’mores Whoopie Pies: I need to lose 10 pounds and these are not helping. I’ve made these twice so far and they are delicious. I do use all butter and cut that back in the filling so as not to be overwhelming. The cookies are delicious by themselves but with the chocolate etc. yuuummmm!!!
My goal is to link to just a few nice sites I’ve visited and partaken of during the week. If you have some that you think I might like send me a note (contact) I hope you enjoy.
Black Diamond Granite Cleaner Giveaway – Ends 6/17 **CLOSED**
***This giveaway has now ended. CONGRATULATIONS entry #1***
I was sent a bottle of Black Diamond Granite Cleaner to review (and to host a giveaway). My countertops in both the kitchen and bathrooms are of the tile variety. I do struggle with what to clean them with, especially the bathroom. Most cleaners I was using left streaks or a buildup and then what if they were destroying the sealant used to protect this lovely investment?
So then Black Diamond Granite Cleaner (marble and tile too) to the rescue. pH balanced designed to, first of all clean your counters, leave no streaks, leave a shine, protect your surfaces AND leave an invisible shield that will resist other water spots, grease stains, soil etc. Black Diamond Granite Cleaner is also non-toxic so it’s safe to use around your family and pets.
My Review:
Well first off the scent got me hooked and I found myself wiping over and over. I used a microfiber cloth and cleaned the kitchen and the bathroom counters and love the smell…did I say that already? It cleaned up the counters nice and spic and span and again I saw no streaks. I do think using microfiber helps with that. A lot of cleaners I use on the counters leave a residue I have to rinse and wipe up. I didn’t get that with Black Diamond. I also suprisingly saw a bit of a shine. I like that it is safe to use around my growing little one and also safe to use in the kitchen. I’m going to keep it for the kitchen as that is where I struggle with what to use to clean.

I found some great sites this week just in my regular browsing around the web. Hope you like ‘em.
Project Home Economics Year II: I found this through another site and fell in love. I found her manner of speaking encouraging and calming. It’s sort of like this encouragment to do your best in homemaking from a Christian perspective. If you want to start at the beginning scroll down a bit and on the right hand side you’ll see the blog archive. Find the February 13th post labeled Welcome and start there.
Raising Homemakers: This is a nice site for getting tips on raising those future homemakers. There are a few giveaways too. It’s a Christian site. Lots of good stuff so take your time.
