Gift Ideas for Men
Do you wait all year to some big shopping the day after Thanksgiving? I don’t. Seriously I do not but sometimes it happens that I need to buy something and I’m thinking of buying the thing and where I’m going to get it when I notice that, “Oh wow! I can get it at a great cost as such and such a shop!”
Here I have lovingly listed for you, using my affiliate links, some places where I shop for the men in the family. I find them to be without a doubt the hardest group of people to shop for. We do not exchange gifts this time of the year but I still find it a great time to take advantage of the sales for future Father’s Day and birthday celebrations.
Sears: This is the place I get my husband’s tool gifts. You know Craftsman. I’ve been focusing on the storage aspect. This time of year you can get some great deals on Craftsman Tool Storage. For me Sears has always meant tools and the nice thing is you can order some items online and pick them up in the store.
ThinkGeek.com: Okay some of the stuff has been over the top but I pick up nifty little gadgety things for the men folk. And by the way I do my Father’s Day shopping here. Right now at you can get Free FedEx Home Delivery. Use code: DEALNEWS
Vintage Paper Dolls
The drawings are just so cute I had to give them free publicity. Two young homeschool graduate sisters have created a small series of paperdolls based on vintage Christian characters. Darling artwork and hours of old fashioned play your young lady would be sure to enjoy.

Wow ! And just after my sewing post! What am I talking about?
Sarah at Sewing Business is having her annual Holiday Giveaway! You can enter to win a gorgeous pair of 8? Gingher Designer “Sarah” Series Dressmaker’s Shears in a gift tin with sheath, PLUS a length of pattern paper.
A little background. The “Sarah” series from Gingher has been retired and currently retails for up to $99.99, and the value of these collectibles tend to rise as they become more scarce. I have a few pairs of Ginghers and they are wonderful scissors to sew with. So sharp and durable. Use them as a special gift for the holiday’s, or keep them as a gift for yourself. Or even better yet – USE them to make gifts for other people.
To enter, go to Sewing Buiness and simply comment about your favorite fall or holiday project, or submit a link to a favorite fall themed project tutorial. You can also get a second entry if you post a link on your blog or website to this giveaway page, or add us to your blogroll.
Email Sarah at submit@sewingbusiness.com to let her know that you qualify for a second entry.
Enter by Saturday, November 28th and the winner will be announced on Monday, November 30th.
Sew Easy
I like sewing…some. I got into sewing about 18 years ago when I saw this gorgeous navy blue wool jumper at the Laura Ashley store in town but couldn’t afford it on a student salary. My aunt gave me evening sewing lessons, we bought a pattern and some wool and I made my version of the jumper. 18 years later I still have the jumper and another one I made from black wool, this time lined, and a wool lined, long sleeved, sheath dress made shortly after getting married 12 years ago.
All this to say I have forgotten how you can satisfy your fashion needs by making what you can’t find in the stores. Not to knock anyone’s style but I don’t seem to be able to find the elegant classic pieces I prefer in my once favorite stores anymore. I happened upon this blog where Carolyn has this great way of organizing her wardrobe pieces based on the seasons and colors she is using.
I still have a ton of patterns I never got to and I just might whip out one or two after being so inspired.
Thank you Carolyn~
Homemaking Back in Style
I think I wrote an article about homemaking a couple of years ago. This one was about how homemaking was back in style and it was before the economic meltdown. This particular article is still making it’s way around the internet but it seems that now homemaking really IS back in style. The basic fundamentals of homemaking are those things that can help you save a buck. Cooking at home instead of eating out. Repairing that clothing item instead of tossing it and buying a new one. Doing your own cleaning instead of having a weekly service (and cleaned and cared for items just last longer.
